General Definition of Cutback Bitumen RC-800
Cutback bitumen (also known as cutback asphalt) is an asphalt cement that has a solvent or distillate added into it to make it liquid at ambient temperatures and at the same time improve its ability to coat aggregates. The solvent or distillate usually used for this purpose are gasoline, diesel, kerosene and naphtha. Typical amount of solvent or distillate in a cutback bitumen is from 12% to 40%.
When gasoline or naphtha is used as the solvent, the final product is categorized as a rapid curing cutback bitumen. RC-800 is one of the examples of a rapid curing cutback bitumen.
In other words, a cutback bitumen is a penetration grade bitumen blended with a solvent to control its curing time. The use of different solvent determines the type of curing the cutback bitumen will have, such as rapid curing, medium rate of curing, or slow rate of curing.
Our RC-800 cutback bitumen is a rapid curing cutback bitumen. It follows the ASTM D2028-97 standards and is approved to be used for the construction industry as well as for pavement treatment.
Uses of Cutback Bitumen RC-800
Cutback bitumen is normally used in spraying and in some mixing applications. They are also used in penetrating prime coats and in producing patching or stockpile mixtures. Cutback bitumen used in mixing with aggregate will usually contain an adhesion agent to assist to coat the aggregate surface. Typically, Cutback Bitumen RC-800 is applied to asphalt or granular surfaces using truck mounted with spray equipment.
Cutback Bitumen RC-800 is also used to waterproof surfaces, plug capillary voids, and to coat and bond loose mineral particles.
